Episode #17 Sarah Westfall
My guest today is Sarah Westfall. Sarah is a faith-based blogger, a speaker and a regular contributor to LifterToday (a Christian lifestyle website) and the quarterly devotional, Light from The Word. She is an Indiana-born girl, wife to Ben and mama to five boys. It’s her joy, and it’s chaos, but being a parent is what has grown her the most spiritually.
Sarah and I start our conversation talking about her family and what it’s like to be a boy mom. We talk about raising our kids up to be the men and women we want them to be and how…maybe we’d like to arrange our kids’ marriages.
Sarah and I go on to talk about the pregnancy and birth of her second son, Carter. Mid-way through her pregnancy, she and her husband were given the unimaginable news that their son would not survive after his birth. Sarah shares how they handled that news and what she did in the weeks leading up to his birth. She told God, “you need to be everything that you say you are, or I cannot do this,” and He showed up for her in the most profound ways. Sarah tells us what it was like in her birthing room, how strong God’s presence was and how they spent the one hour of their son’s life.
Sarah and I talk about the following months and what it was like to go back to her life after experiencing such an excruciating loss, what you do when the plans you made and the dreams you had for your family are severely altered. Sarah shares how God continued to give them grace and mercy and how her healing process began.
Sarah’s story is painful andunexplainable, but she has chosen to glorify God with it. And whether you’re a mom or not, there hasbeen or will be loss and pain in your life and Sarah does such a good job atpointing us toward Jesus in hardship.
